One of the best motorcycle riding experiences that you can have is riding with a group of friends. If you’re planning to go on a long-distance trip with your favorite people, here are a few tips that you’ll find handy. Read on to learn more!

The Route

Undertaking solo trips allows you the flexibility to do what you want. You can start early or later than planned, take a detour, or explore destinations on the way that weren't a part of your itinerary. However, when you’re traveling with a group, you’ll need to plan and coordinate with your group members by considering everyone’s riding skills.

Packing Tips

Carry the essential items that will help you stay comfortable and safe. These will include comfortable outerwear and riding boots, eye protection, gloves, rainproof gear, and a sturdy, well-fitting helmet. You’ll also want to carry snacks, water bottles, toiletries, and medication. Make sure that a group member brings a tool kit and a first-aid kit.

Before leaving, ensure that your motorcycle is ready to handle the long ride and that its gas tank is full. You don’t want to spoil the fun just because your bike ran out of gas.

Riding Formation

Pick a riding formation in advance to ensure that every member is comfortable with it. It will make your group more visible to other motorists and prevent a member from getting lost. Seasoned group riders recommend the staggered double-line formation. In this setup, you’ll be one second behind the rider next to you and two seconds away from those in front and behind you. This zipper-like formation is safe and lets you take advantage of riding in each other’s drafts.

Stay Within Your Group’s Limits

Each of your group members will have different riding skills and styles. To keep everyone on the same page, plan your trip by keeping the lowest-skilled rider in mind. It won’t be fair to expect them to ride routes way beyond their ability.

Also, remember to take breaks so you can grab a bite, hydrate yourself, walk around, and stretch your legs. You must avoid riding your bike when you’re too tired or distracted due to being hungry or thirsty.
